Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to Yours in Scouting! I am a Round Table Commissioner in Central Texas. I am commited to the Scouting program (or sould I be commited?) as I firmly believe in the values it instills in young men and women.
Please let me know if there is a topic you would like to see addressed. I will blog about my experiences in Scouting and the ideas I have presented at Round Table and our area Pow Wow.
Can you ever have too many ideas?

Ideas for October

Hi everyone! We had our first real Round Table for this scout year (school year).
It went very well! The true die hards were there. It was last Thursday and we had a lot going on in our town. Several of our sporting events were moved to Thursday in preparation for Hurricane Ike. Of course, it changed course and we didn't even get much rain. But we did get some wind and a free Saturday so I guess it was all good!
Here are some ideas for October Pack Meetings and Den Meetings.

The Theme is Adventure in Books.

Why not go to the library and participate in a library scavenger hunt?
There are several here http://www.enchantedlearning.com/library/scavengerhunt/
You can offer a prize to the team (or individual) that finishes first. Maybe offer a booklight or a bookmark.

Or maybe you should have the boys bring their favorite books. Make up a matching game and see if any of the adults can match the author with the correct book.

You can also make bookmarks at your den meetings. Maybe make some extra ones and take them to an assisted living center.

You can also make your own book. There are some ideas here:

I buy blank books at the teacher supply store and my kids love to make their own comic books. I learn alot of what is going on in their lives by what they choose to put in there :) Our local teacher supply store has these in paperback and hard cover.

Have your boys dress up as their favorite character in a book for the Pack Meeting.

Create your own cover for a book.

These are just a few ideas I have in my head. I will get out my Round Table notes and fill in the other areas soon.

Happy Reading!

YIS,
Shelley
